Originally offering synagogue services to support the growing Jewish community in Solon and surrounding areas, the center soon expanded to include a preschool, Hebrew school, and a camp, all utilizing a modest basement space. By 2020, with a steady increase in community members and demand for larger event spaces, Rabbi Zushe Greenberg identified the need for a significant expansion. The envisioned addition included a spacious social hall and a commercial kitchen to accommodate large celebrations like weddings, bar mitzvahs, and holiday gatherings. Ronald Kluchin Architects was commissioned to create a design that harmonized with the existing architecture, and Marous Brothers Construction was selected in November 2021 as the Construction Manager after a competitive bidding process. The expansion project included a 90-foot breezeway connecting the existing facility to a new 14,000-square-foot social hall and kitchen. The social hall’s dimensions, measuring 65 feet by 80 feet, matched those of the existing synagogue space, with an intricately designed ceiling that rises to 25 feet at its highest point, showcasing a 60-foot barrel vault accented by a striking rose window at the east end. Marous Brothers Construction’s Special Projects Group worked diligently to expedite the framing of the breezeway and common areas, enabling the Chabad Center to secure a temporary Certificate of Occupancy in time for the Jewish High Holidays. Since its completion, the addition has exceeded its intended use, becoming a constant gathering place for various community events, including holiday parties, family celebrations, and educational performances, solidifying the center’s role as a vibrant community anchor.
